It is an innovative new salt product -developed to deliver small but critical amounts of iodine & as well as IRON to human beings through their diet. The intent for this innovation is to provide 100% of the day-to-day iodine requirement of a human & 30 to 60% of the day-to-day iron requirement of a human.

Double fortification of natural salt will contain iron & iodine and this could be a sustainable approach to combat against the iron & iodine deficiency wave among the humans In this development of double fortified salt the brain behind it is India's National Institute of Nutrition, This institute has taken initiative to transfer the technology to iodized salt manufacturers in the country and provide continuous quality control support.

The institute have approved the addition of iron in iodized salt with India's ministry of health and family welfare at 0.8 - 1.1 mg/g of common salt. This double fortified salt is yet to take off in a big way.
